Peru is popular with solo travellers who want to scale the heights of Machu Picchu - but heavy rains and mudslides last month mean that getting up there is - for the time being - a no-go.
However, there is much more to the South American country than these beautiful ancient ruins. Daniela Resenterra is a spokesperson for PromPeru, a company focused on promoting the nation.
She recommends the Colca Canyons, which are actually double the depth of the Grand Canyon and a jaw-dropping sight for those who want to be amazed. What's more, they are still a relatively undiscovered part of Peru for tourists.
Iquitos, which is located right in the Amazon rainforest, is also a great travel idea. Canopy suites suspended 30 metres in the air mean that you can sleep under the stars but enjoy the benefits of electricity and a butler.
Ms Resenterra also suggests the northern coastal area of Peru, for here you will find the "best weather in the country".
"It's sunshine constantly all year round. It's really good for surfing and water sports," she says.
And in terms of affordability, most people will find something to suit their wallet - and taste.
Food and souvenirs are "very cheap" and there is a range of hotels and other accommodation options to choose from, Ms Resenterra adds.
"It's still South American kind of prices compared to western prices. It's definitely very affordable."
