Cruise holidays still popularFigures released from the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA) on the 4th May 2011 show that cruise holidays grew by 6% at a time when the total number of foreign holidays continued to decline. It is also expected to continue to grow in 2011 to a possible 1.7 million.

Why choose a cruise?

The popularity of cruising has soared and the cruise industry has responded with bigger and better ships and an increasing number of ports of call; there has never been a better time to choose a cruise.

So why are cruises so popular?

  • Great value for money; all inclusive and your trip can be easily budgeted for when you pay upfront.
  • Getting to the cruise ship is easy with numerous ports to disembark.
  • New ships are being introduced each year offering you the latest in luxury cruising.
  • With improved access they are a great choice for the disabled traveller.
  • Enjoy the luxury of visiting many different places and only unpacking once.
  • Tailor your cruise to suite your own individual style and taste.
  • Many travel agents specialise in booking cruises for travellers with special needs.
  • The whole experience of holidaying at sea is reason enough.

So what’s new for cruise this year?

2011 saw the launch of Disney Cruise Line’s, the Disney Dream, which will have the first rollercoaster at sea and will be the 3rd ship in their cruise line fleet. The Disney Dream is 40% larger than the previous two and two decks taller. On the vessel you’ll find State rooms, Youth Clubs, dining, entertainment, pools, nightclubs and lounges. “To step aboard the Disney Dream is to be instantly transported to an age of adventure and wonder, where elegance and sophistication mingle with Disney storytelling and whimsy”.
Fly-cruise trips are also proving to be popular as holiday makers are thinking ahead; if a travel crisis should arise having booked as a package deal will ensure for a full refund.
According to ABTA, River cruising is becoming a popular choice for example on the Mekong Delta in Vietnam, the Yangtze in China and Russia’s waterways.
