Golfing holidays

Golf holidaysGolfing is an activity that is enjoyed in almost every part of the world. The fact that almost anybody can play the game, regardless of age, gender, fitness level or ability means that the golf holiday industry has really boomed over the last few decades, so there is plenty of choice and at reasonable prices.

Any golf enthusiast will tell you there is nothing better than long days in the sunshine practising their favourite sport, and there are such a vast variety of golfing holidays available you can tailor make a trip to best suit your tastes.

Location, location, location

Some golfing destinations are old favourites - like the Algarve and the Costa del Sol, but you could opt for a trip closer to home and try Ireland or Scotland (the home of golf at St Andrews).

When picking your golfing holiday find out as much information on the courses themselves but do not forget to overlook other critical details with regard to accommodation, eating out, weather, travel and the local nightlife.

Booking your tee times

Word of advice - consider evening activities as well as your golf. Booking all your tee times early in the morning may not be sensible if you enjoy a late night or two. You can book tee off times over the internet for your convenience. Visit www.teetimesanywhere.com to search for available times all over the world.

Travel tips

Taking your clubs through the airport can prove a bit of a nightmare, so here are a few suggestions to make your journey at both ends a little easier;

  • Try taking only half a set of clubs - Fewer clubs are easier to carry around the airport, allow more room in the car, and means you'll have a lighter bag out on the course, beneficial if you are going somewhere hot.
  • Check with your airlines regarding weight allowance or hidden extra charges.
  • Invest in a good travel case with wheels to help transport your clubs and protect them during handling
  • Ensure that your travel insurance includes golf holiday cover – some may not cover you for loss or damage to your clubs in transit or for any injuries sustained while playing a round.
  • Remember - most golf clubs allow you to only play in recognised golf shoes.
