UK sailing travel guide
As the UK is an island nation - and as such surrounded by water - you will find there are plenty of places to go sailing in the UK. No matter where in the country you wish to visit, the Travellers Club's UK sailing travel guide can help you find out more information about where you can take to the water.
One place you may be tempted to go while sailing in the UK is the south coast. Plymouth has a long and rich maritime history, so after shoring up your vessel at Plymouth Sound why not find out more about the city's past by visiting the Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery. The city is also the finishing point for the famous yachting event the Fastnet Race, so it's perfect if you want to see top-quality yachting in the UK.
Weymouth has several fantastic sailing facilities and the Dorset town is to host a number of water sports events for the 2012 Olympic Games. There are a number of boat trips departing from Weymouth that take you along the Jurassic Coast, although if you wish to charter your own course you can hire a boat from several local companies.
You may want to take a trip to the Isle of Wight or take in fascinating coastal towns and cities such as Bournemouth and Brighton while sailing. Wherever you go, you are sure to have fun, so why not read our south coast holiday guide to find out more about the places you can visit while along the southern stretch of the UK?
But if you do not feel like going boating along the south coast; why not visit the Cotswold Water Park? With more than 40 acres of water, the park can be ideal for a spot of sailing. Here you can also try your hand at canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing.
Alternatively, you may wish to head north and check out the Lake District. There are several lakes where you can test your nautical skills, but for a particularly memorable sailing in the UK holiday, you might want to consider Windermere - it is the largest lake in England.
