    San Francisco travel guideWith its iconic Golden Gate bridge, you are likely to already be aware of one of San Francisco's captivating landmarks. However, whether you're heading to the city for the first time or a regular visitor, you may find that the San Francisco travel guide from the Travellers Club to be helpful.

    One place you should be sure to take in while on a city break to the US is Alcatraz Island. Located off the coast of Fisherman's Wharf, the former prison hosted some of the most infamous criminals in American history, including Al Capone. Although the building is no longer used as a prison, with many of the cells still intact you can get a sense of what it was like to be locked up there.

    You may also endeavour to visit the captivating Golden Gate Bridge. Stretching some 1.7 miles in length, the single span suspension-bridge was at one point the tallest structure in the entire city.

And if you're seeking a little culture will not disappoint. There are a number of museums and art galleries to visit including the de Young Museum, the California Academy of Sciences and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, while fans of Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck may wish to head to the Walt Disney Family Museum.

    San Francisco is famous for being built on a number of hills, so if you wish to go for a walk there will be plenty of steep inclines to tackle, although if you prefer a more leisurely form of transport hop on one of the city's iconic trams.
