ReykjavikWhether you want to go horse-riding in Iceland, view some fascinating art or hit the high street in search of a bargain, here at the Travellers Club we hope we can help you find out more about the range of things to see and do in the city.

And if you're something of a culture vulture you'll be pleased to know the Icelandic capital is home to numerous museums and galleries which delve into the European country's Viking past. One such place is the Saga Museum, while the Reykjavik 871 +/- 2 Settlement Exhibition contains a longhouse boat from this period of history.

If you prefer visual art, a trip to the National Gallery may be for you. With museums and galleries differing vastly in terms of size and subjects, there will be lots for you to take in. You may want to visit the Gallery Agust, Hafnarborg or the ASI ART Museum, which contains works by both Icelandic and international artists.

Reykjavik travel guideIf you want to see some historic buildings. One attraction you will be sure to want to visit is the gorgeous Hofdi House. Built in 1909, various heads of state - including the Queen - have stayed there and it was also the location for the 1986 summit meeting between Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev that effectively put an end to the Cold War.Meanwhile, the stunning Hallgrimskirkja church dominates the Reykjavik skyline. The largest church in the entire country, its tower can be seen from almost everywhere in the city.

Perhaps you might like to indulge in shopping and sports whilst in Reykjavik. Should you want to keep active while taking in all the stunning city has to offer you have the option of trying the likes of ten-pin bowling and ice-skating, while you will also find that a wide range of activities - such as skiing and horse-riding - are located just outside of Reykjavik. Sports such as handball, football and golf are also popular with the locals, so why not give these a go yourself?

If you're looking for a slightly less active break, you might want to splash the cash and do some shopping. Whether you want a new outfit or souvenirs to take back home, the department stores and boutiques that can be found in the Icelandic capital mean you're bound to find something you just have to buy.
